What Is A Wheel Bulldozers ?

The most important use of the bulldozer is to carry out earthworks, including operations such as slope cutting, filling, excavation and leveling. It can complete a large amount of earthwork in a short period of time, for example, in road construction, embankment reinforcement, canal excavation and so on. There are currently two types of bulldozers, crawler bulldozers and wheel bulldozers. This article mainly introduces the characteristics of wheel bulldozers and their uses.

1. Features and Uses

Wheel dozers are fast to drive, flexible, have short work cycle times, are easy to transport and transfer, and have low tractive effort. Wheel dozers are suitable for situations that require frequent site changes and on-site work.

2. Compare With Crawler Bulldozer

a. Flexibility: Compared to tracked bulldozers, wheel bulldozers do not have the presence of a track chain, resulting in a simpler and more straightforward structure. The wheel dozer can be used by driving the vehicle directly to the destination of the earthmoving project without the need for assembly and installation. With the flexibility of tyres, wheel dozers can operate not only on hard roads but also through rough and muddy ground. In addition, wheel dozers have better suspension and braking systems to better adapt to different road conditions and working environments.

b. Maintenance cost: Wheel bulldozers do not need components such as track chains, which require more power to operate, so compared to wheel bulldozers will have lower fuel consumption. Maintenance and repair of wheel dozers is easier, as there is no need to clean and replace track chains, making it easier to maintain and repair the machine.

c. Climbing ability: Wheel bulldozers do have less climbing ability than tracked bulldozers. This is because the wheeled bulldozer has good manoeuvrability but poor attachment capability of the travelling unit, which makes it perform less well than the crawler when faced with heavy loads and complex terrain, especially when it is required to climb slopes. Crawler dozers have high traction on the travelling unit, low grounding pressure, the ability to work in soft ground and wet ground, and good hill climbing ability, making them suitable for heavy loads and complex terrain. In contrast, wheelbulldozers have good manoeuvrability but perform better in spread out, lightly loaded work areas.
